DREADMOOR Harpooner: Bait, Reeling & Fishing Troubleshooting

PC Demo • v0.3.30–v0.3.32 controls; troubleshooting suggestions may vary by setup

The short answer

Use Rainbow Fin in an active predatory-fish area. Retrieve slowly enough for the Harpooner to follow, pull against it after the bite, and watch line tension while reeling. If each cycle loses distance, try short reeling bursts during the fight rather than waiting only for exhaustion.

Bait and the approach to the lure

Harpooner is a predatory fish. Use Rainbow Fin and retrieve the lure through an active fish area. A Simple Rod with Rainbow Fin can catch one; a rod upgrade is not automatically the answer to every failed catch.

Before the bite, keep the lure moving at a pace the fish can follow. Reeling too quickly can leave it behind; leaving the lure still for too long can make the predator lose interest.

After the bite: stamina and line tension

Pull the rod against the fish’s movement to drain its stamina. When it tires, hold the left mouse button to reel it closer. Watch the line-tension meter and ease off reeling before it reaches its limit.

Once the fish is close enough and F / LAND FISH appears, press F to land it.

The Harpooner keeps getting farther away

If you only reel during the exhausted window, the fish may escape farther during the next fight than you pull it back. A useful change to try is short reeling bursts while continuing to fight the fish, easing off reeling as tension approaches the red zone.

Players have had success with that rhythm, including using the keyboard to fight the fish while reeling with the mouse. Treat it as an alternative technique, not a guaranteed fix for every reeling problem. Avoid holding reel-in continuously through high tension.

Match the check to the symptom

What happens What to try
Fish follows, then turns away before biting Change the lure’s retrieval pace; this happens before the hooked fight.
Each hooked fight ends with the fish farther away Try short, tension-controlled reeling bursts during the fight.
Tension keeps rising after you release reel-in Check whether the input has stayed engaged; this differs from simply losing distance.

There is no guaranteed frame-rate setting that belongs in this sequence. Do not assume that a 60 FPS cap will fix the same symptom on every PC.
